Sushi

The teriyaki dripped off the piece of nigiri she was bringing to her mount. After quickly devouring the savoury morsel she looked down to see a brown spot on her brand new white dress shirt.
She made a hissing noise, which made the gentleman at the table next to hers look up.

The restaurant was fully booked. There's were the only tables that only had 1 person dining. He regarded her, noticed how her hair flowed down the sides of her shoulders and even though she sounded upset the corners of her mouth were turned up. She was enjoying herself too much to let a spot on her shirt spoil her evening.

She felt somebody watching and looked up. Noticing that the man at the other table was watching her she blushed and gave an akward head nod. He was startled as he had not realized that he was staring. He smiled and nodded back.

She enjoyed the rest of her sushi and left, her skirt danced around her legs as she walked passed him. Her whole body language smiled. He was fascinated and maybe a bit smitten.
Before exiting the restaurant she made reservations for the next week.

The very next week she was seated at the same table and she noticed the man was there as well. She smiled, somehow found courage and asked him if he would like to join her. He happily accepted.T the conversation never felt forced, not for a second. They loved each others company.

This ritual would continue for a few weeks. The restaurant would be the meeting place. They would tell each other about their week, their family and life in general.

Until one day he wasn't there. She asked the waiter if a reservation had been made, it had, but he wasn't there. She waited all night and he didn't show up. The sushi didn't taste like it had before.

The week after that he didn't show up either. She was sad and felt she better leave when the waiter brought over a note from a young woman standing close to exit.
She scanned the note and got up to talk to the young woman. The woman told her that she was his sister. He had begged her to come to the restaurant to explain everything to his sushi girl.

He was sick, he was good at hiding it. He didn't like people having pitty on him and he certainly didn't want the sweetest girl he had ever met having pitty on him. The last few weeks it had gotten worse. He was a ghost only living for his meetings with his sushi girl, but last week... It ended last week.  Tears rolled down both their faces.

She couldn't handle that it was over, all she could think of was running and she did start to walk away. That's when the man's sister grabbed her arm. It wasn't what she thought. He was going to be okay. The transprant had gone well, he just couldn't come to dinner with her while he healed.

The following day she walked into the hospital room with a tiny box of take away sushi. The tears in her eyes as he told her to come closer. He kissed her and that was that.
